What is Ipamorelin?

In brief

Ipamorelin is a synthetic pentapeptide from the growth hormone secretagogue (GHS) class. A 1998 paper characterised it as the first selective agonist of this class: in models it stimulated growth-hormone release without materially affecting cortisol or ACTH. Its development as a medicine was never completed.

Identity

Ipamorelin is a synthetic peptide of five amino-acid residues belonging to the growth hormone secretagogue (GHS) class. It acts through the GHS receptor — the same receptor bound by ghrelin.

The key published work

The foundational characterisation was published by Raun and colleagues in the European Journal of Endocrinology in 1998, describing ipamorelin as the first selective GHS: it stimulated growth-hormone secretion in experimental models while — unlike earlier compounds of the class — leaving ACTH and cortisol levels largely unaffected.

Clinical status

Ipamorelin entered early-phase clinical studies (including post-surgical indications), but development was never completed and it is not registered as a medicine anywhere. No published data describe long-term human use.

Catalogue status

Ipamorelin in the Moscow Peptides catalogue is a research material for laboratory work. It is not intended for human use.
