Data publication rules

Testing methodology

This page describes the conditions under which a result appears on the site — and why the absence of a result is also information.

Three statuses

Meaning of statuses
VerifiedA verified document linked to this batch exists and is accessible via a link. The laboratory and analysis date are stated.
PendingThe document has not yet been received or has not passed verification. No result value is published.
Not availableA document for this batch cannot be obtained — for example, the test was not performed and is not planned.

There is no intermediate "probably fine" state. An absence of confirmation is always displayed as an absence of confirmation.

Rules enforced by the system

The requirements below are implemented as checks in code and covered by automated tests. A record violating them cannot be published unnoticed — the build fails.

  • A purity value may exist only when the status is verified.
  • A verified purity status requires at least one verified document.
  • A verified identity status requires a verified mass-spectrometry report.
  • A document link is permitted only when the status is verified.
  • A verified document must name the laboratory.

Document source

A supplier document and an independent laboratory document do not carry the same evidential weight. When documents exist, their source will be stated explicitly: supplier or independent laboratory.

What we do not do

  • We do not publish certificates whose origin is unconfirmed.
  • We do not state purity values without an accompanying document.
  • We do not attach one document to several different materials.
  • We do not describe a document as independent testing without confirmed laboratory independence.
